Product Description
Catnip essential oil has a soothing aroma and gets its name from its effect on cats. The scent of catnip oil is herbaceous with some notes reminding of peppermint oil. Catnip essential oil is extracted from Nepeta cataria belonging to Lamiaceae family. It is the same family which gives us other minty oils.
Catnip essential oil is processed through steam distilling the flowers and leaves of the plant. It is mostly pale yellow in colour but certain produce can also be brown. Catnip, commonly known as catmint oil, contains natural compounds like Nepetalactone, Limonene and Citronellol. The percentage of these compounds vary depending on the origin and cultivation of the plant.
Catnip essential oil has a relaxing effect on humans as well as cats. But don't forget to check with your vet before using it around your pets. Using catnip oil for perfumes can add an interesting minty yet rosy note to any scent. It also exhibits some antioxidant properties which help fight against oxidative stress.
Catnip essential oil is also studied for its natural sedative properties. It calms the nervous system and helps sleep better. Add a few drops of it to your diffuser before going to bed or make a linen spray by combining it with water and witch hazel.
