What is Eugenol?
Eugenol is a natural compound found in spice oils like clove, cinnamon leaf and bark, laurel leaf, sweet basil, holy basil, ylang ylang, etc. However, clove contains the highest percentage of eugenol and is thus most widely used for extraction.
Its chemical composition is of a phenol and is used in both - oil and water based formulations. While eugenol dissolves easily in oil, it only dissolves partially in water. It is extensively used in manufacturing of dental care products like toothpaste, mouthwash, gum gels etc.
