What is Geranium Essential Oil
- Extraction of Geranium Essential Oil: The Geranium oil is extracted from the matured leaves and flowers of the Geranium. The collected flowers and leaves are left to wilt for 2 - 3 days before oil production. They are cut into small pieces and prepared for the extraction of oil on the same day.
- Steam Distillation: The full-bloomed flowers stems, and leaves extract this oil. The germinated and harvested plants are washed and dried. Then they are placed in the tray of the distillation apparatus setup. The temperature is turned on and when it reaches an extent. The steam is passed on the tray, and the oil remains, and some of the water evaporates.
- Solvent extraction: The other method of oil production from Geranium leaves is Solvent Extraction. The popular and modern method of oil extraction is called solvent extraction. It is also called a liquid extraction or leaching method. Solvent extraction is done by adding the solvent hexane and ethanol to the leaf, flower, and stem for oil extraction.
- Cold Pressing: The next possible extraction method is cold pressing; the harvested and washed parts of the plant are placed in the vat for manual or mechanical pressing. After this, the oil steeps out and is collected in the tray.
